Empire of Storms Synopsis
“The long path to the throne has only just begun for Aelin Galathynius as war looms on the horizon. Loyalties have been broken and bought, friends have been lost and gained, and those who possess magic find themselves at odds with those who don’t.
With her heart sworn to the warrior-prince by her side, and her fealty pledged to the people she is determined to save, Aelin will delve into the depths of her power to protect those she loves. But as monsters emerge from the horrors of the past, and dark forces become poised to claim her world, the only chance for salvation will lie in a desperate quest that may mark the end of everything Aelin holds dear.“

Why did I pick it?
I put this off for SO LONG, I think it might have even been a year. It’s just such a long series and such a long book, I just never felt like picking it up again, I think 3/4 book series might be my limit (except for Harry Potter of course!). Not to mention that the ACoTaR series has pretty much taken over for me in terms of my favourite Sarah J Maas series.
What I loved about it
Despite not picking it up as a much-anticipated release I did enjoy catching up with the characters and seeing them develop. I particularly liked the progression of the Elide/Lorcan storyline, which was by far my favourite.
I do like how Sarah J Maas manages to move between plot points as we read from different character POV’s, it kept my interest on some occasions when it started to falter. All of them are fully developed as well, with their own backstories which only adds to the enjoyment for me.
What I loathed about it
The length, it REALLY didn’t need to be this long in my opinion, often I felt the story just completely faltered and lost it for a few 30/50 pages before it got going again. I ended up putting it down after two-thirds of the book to read something else just to give me a break.
Thoughts
Although I might not be a massive TOG fangirl I will be reading Kingdom of Ash when it’s out in October, thanks Sarah for the cliffhanger! But first I need to catch up on Tower of Dawn, and quick!
