*Gifted Collab with Photowall
Lockdown may have its cons, but a big pro for us has been having the time to start on the renovations. We moved into our new house while I was pregnant and two years later we haven’t done a great deal!
When Photowall contacted me and asked if I wanted to collaborate it seemed like a great opportunity to get started!
I chose to do a feature wall in two rooms instead of 1 whole room. First up was the Study
Study
I love spending time in my study, maybe not so much now as I LIVE in there for work, but normally my study is one of my favourite places to read and relax. I had already planned on something a little bit girlie in here and have tones of taupe, pink and grey around the room.
After shortlisting a few, I finally went for the Wild in My Garden print by Lisa Bilvik. Photowall does a mixture of mural and wallpaper options and I felt a “pattern” would work better here than a mural.
There’s loads of detail though. I hadn’t realised how much fruit there was in the pattern until my toddler started pointing and spotting them all.
Installation
The wallpaper itself was very easy to install. It’s printed onto numbered sheets to the measurements you gave on ordering, so you know exactly where you are up to. The pattern lined up really easily and you can’t see the joins once up. It’s worth noting that you paste onto the wall, not the paper, which I love as you need less space and for me, it’s less messy as I’m awful at getting paste EVERYWHERE.
I accessorised the area with some bits from Ikea, M&S and Next and Tesco.
I still have the rest of the walls to paint but I can’t decide on whether to go for a light pink or a grey yet, watch this space!
Cloakroom
For me, this is the room where I like to do something a little unexpected. It’s a room often used by visitors and I like to have a bit of fun with it as it’s usually an overlooked room when it comes to decor.
I had already earmarked this room for a “Japanese” theme where I could mount some of the items we purchased from our trip to Japan a few years ago. However, I hadn’t yet decided on wallpaper.
When I saw this mural from Photowall I knew it would be perfect. It’s Birdy heights in “pearly”, there are other background colours to chose from but I’m addicted to grey at the moment.
Measuring Up
This is more of a mural than a wallpaper, although the method for putting it up was the same. A big difference was getting the measurements right. On the Photowall website, you can enter your measurements and work out where your crop of the image would be. What I found difficult was working out where the sink and wall curve would be in relation to the print, the option to add additional guidelines would have been helpful.
However, I don’t think I did too badly. I wanted the blossoms to sit over the top of the sink and they do. In hindsight, I probably should have painted the wall underneath. I didn’t get the sheets as close together on this one so the light paint underneath can be seen in places.
Tiling Options
I also got rid of the sink splashback while I was at it. These tiles are Marais Rose from Porcelain Superstore.
They were a great match to the blossom and Porcelain Superstore were great, as they did free samples and were willing to send me 12 tiles at a reduced postage rate.
I didn’t bother with edging, mainly as I couldn’t get hold of any during the lockdown (or a tiler, but that another story!). Instead, I grouted the edges and I don’t think it looks too shabby.
Again I still have the walls to paint but there’s plenty of time for that.
